Former Representative Beto O’Rourke of Texas was just asked at the first Democratic debate what his top individual tax rate would be. Instead of providing a direct answer to his first question of the night, O’Rourke went on a tangent and proceeded to speak in Spanish to complete his non-answer.

The action of speaking Spanish prompted a side eye from Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Sen. Corey Booker. He was also heavily criticized on Twitter for resorting to answer in a language other than English, particularly when captions aren’t provided.
