CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Hundreds of immigrants in the U.S. illegally were arrested this week in North Carolina after some local law agencies stopped cooperating with immigration enforcement, a federal official said Friday.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement regional director Sean Gallagher said the arrests resulted from what he termed “the dangerous policies of not cooperating with ICE,” The Charlotte Observer reported.

The article goes on to state the following:

“This is politics over public safety at its worst,” Gallagher said at a news conference. It’s a change, he said, that gave the agency “no choice” but to conduct targeted enforcement operations like the one this week.

WooHoo 🥳 🎉 It’s celebration time!! We need more and more sweeps like this. KUDOS to all our wonderful ICE agents who put their lives on the line to enforce our Current Federal Congressionally Mandated Immigration Laws. It’s good to see some people remember what laws are..right? It’s those things our Country follows to keep peace and Order? Those things that Obama and the Clinton’s ignored and are no longer being enforced? Yeah, those Laws. 👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

I was really hoping that this was a policy change and a step towards more aggressive enforcement. Looks like it was an action based on the uncooperative police departments, rather the a policy change at the top.
