U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) this week arrested two millionaire fugitives from Ecuador whose family donated heavily to American political campaigns.

Roberto and William Isaías, 74 and 75, were detained Wednesday in Miami and taken to a detention facility for undocumented immigrants awaiting deportation, The New York Times reported Friday.

According to ICE officials, the brothers were in the U.S. illegally.  Since being in the U.S., they have reportedly donated tens of thousands of dollars to members of the U.S. Congress, along with $90,000 to former President Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign. One year after their donation to Obama, the Department of Justice rejected Ecuador request to send them back, saying it “lacked sufficient proof.’  The article goes on to state the following:

The Isaías brothers were convicted in 2012 of embezzlement by an Ecuadorean court and sentenced to prison terms in absentia, since they had been living in South Florida for nearly a decade. The brothers have denied any wrongdoing, claiming the Ecuadorean government politicized the case and wrongfully seized their assets, the Times reported.

The New York Times further reported:

The Isaías brothers, bankers vilified in Ecuador for increasing their wealth in the late 1990s just as their bank collapsed — wiping out tens of thousands of customers’ savings — were convicted of embezzlement by a court there in 2012.

Ecuador has estimated that the brothers cost the country $400 million, and has for years sought their extradition. At one point, even the American ambassador in Ecuador lobbied for their prompt return, accusing the men of financing a $2 million bribe to get Ecuador’s attorney general to drop the case.

As their criminal case heated up in Ecuador, the cash started flowing in the United States. The Isaías brothers’ relatives donated tens of thousands dollars to members of the United States Congress, and $90,000 to help re-elect President Barack Obama.

Does that also mean members of Congress and Obama be held accountable for collusion?

  3. Suzanne February 16th, 2019 at 11:59 am

There is so much corruption in our government, swamp is the perfect word. I wish we could start over. Our Forefathers are turning in their graves.

This is an example of illegals interfering with American government. They need to be extradited to Ecuador. Obama needs to be picked up by the FBI, as a potential run, and jailed. Trial by a military tribunal.

The article said the donations to Congree were from relatives, not the brothers themselves. DML at the start mislead readers with their intro.

Congress, not Congree, keyboard on the phone is too small…..😊
