Rep. Ilhan Omar, D., Minn., has accused the Trump administration of being “bigoted” amid reports that U.S. embassies have had requests to fly the rainbow Pride flag denied.

June is Pride Month, promoting visibility for the LGBTQ community, and U.S. embassies in Israel, Germany, Brazil, and Latvia made requests to the Trump administration to fly the flag on the official embassy flagpole in honor of Pride. According to NBC News, those requests were denied by the State Department.

The article goes on to state the following:

“This is another blatant example of this administration’s bigotry and discrimination against the LGBTQIA+ community,” Rep. Omar tweeted on Monday in response to the news.

Vice President Mike Pence defended the decision to keep the pride flag off the pole at US Embassies in an interview Monday.

“As the president said on the night we were elected, we’re proud to be able to serve every American,” Pence said. “We both feel that way very passionately, but when it comes to the American flagpole, and American embassies, and capitals around the world, having the one American flag fly I think is the right decision.”

Responses to Omar’s tweet tended to be in support of the Trump administration’s decision.

“Don’t you think LGBTQ are Americans?” asked @Twin66.

“Why should a sexual orientation flag be flown over an embassy?” @Sosus328 tweeted.

“The Flag of USA is the only that should fly as Representative of our Nation and Liberties of ALL,” @JoseOlmos answered.

Lets have the Blue lives matter flag fly at our embassies! Or how about the POW/MIA flag! I am positive she would be singing a different tune should that happen!
