Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Wednesday warned that attempts by President Trump or a successor to Attorney General Jeff Sessions to interfere in special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation would spark a “constitutional crisis.”

“I’d say this, protecting Mueller and his investigation is paramount,” Schumer told reporters during a previously scheduled press conference. “It would create a constitutional crisis if this were a prelude to ending or greatly limiting the Mueller investigation and I hope President Trump and those he listens to will refrain from that.”

The article goes on to state the following:

Schumer was peppered with questions about the attorney general’s exit minutes after Sessions was ousted from the top Justice Department spot. In his resignation letter, Sessions said he was submitting his resignation at Trump’s request.

Schumer also responded to Sessions’s resignation on Twitter, writing, “Clearly, the President has something to hide,” in reply to President Trump’s announcement that Matthew G. Whitaker, Chief of Staff to Attorney General Jeff Sessions at the Department of Justice, will become our new Acting Attorney General of the United States.

Schumer then demanded that Whitaker recuse himself from oversight of the Mueller investigation, tweeting, “Given his previous comments advocating defunding and imposing limitations on the Mueller investigation, Mr. Whitaker should recuse himself from its oversight for the duration of his time as acting attorney general.”

” Schumer also responded to Sessions’s resignation on Twitter, writing, “Clearly, the President has something to hide,” in reply to President Trump’s announcement that Matthew G. What an assertion to make, that the President has something to hide AFTER two years of an investigation that has found nothing to incriminate the President of collusion with a foreign power. NOTHING! All it has turned into is a witch hunt that is costing the taxpayer millions. This circus needs shutting down. Mueller needs reigning in. Something Sessions could not do, because he has recused himself, which made him, as an Attorney General, REDUNDANT! He needed to go, and now he is gone.

Schumer is the one who is afraid. He is afraid of President Trump emerging squeaky clean from what has amounted to nothing more than a farce – an abuse of power, resources and monies on a wild goose chase. He is afraid of the Russian collusion story being seen for what it has always been – a rise to deflect from Hilary Clinton and her illegal dealings with a foreign power. Shame this creep (Schumer) wasn’t voted into oblivion during the mid-terms!
