PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Garbage could be piling up across the city of Pittsburgh as sanitation workers refused to report for work on Wednesday morning.

Some of them said they are not being given enough protective gear as the coronavirus continues to spread through the area.

The article goes on to state the following:

The parking lot of the city’s sanitation building was packed with men and women who are usually out on trucks.

“We want better equipment, better protective gear, we have no masks,” one sanitation worker said. “We want hazard pay.”

One of the workers, Fitzroy Moss, filmed the walkout on a Facebook Live video in the wee hours of the morning on Wednesday. The video has already been viewed over 19,000 times.

CBS reported that after a couple hours of the parking lot protest Wednesday morning, the workers were finally all sent home with pay and told to report back at 5:30 am on Thursday.

Their union representatives are now reportedly in negotiations over what will happen next.
