A Navy sailor who opened fire at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard in Hawaii on Wednesday has been identified as Gabriel Antonio Romero, the Navy confirmed to Fox News on Thursday.

Romero, a Texas native and machinist’s mate auxiliary fireman, was just a week shy of his two-year anniversary with the Navy when the incident occurred. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Navy confirmed.

The article goes on to state the following:

The shooting took place near the USS Columbia, a Los Angeles-class attack submarine, which Romero had been stationed at since June 28, 2018.

In a series of Twitter posts on Friday, the Navy provided the following update:

Two Department of Defense civilians died following a shooting at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam on Dec. 4. The shooter, a Navy Sailor assigned to USS Columbia (SSN 771), died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. 1/4

The civilians have been identified: – Vincent J. Kapoi of Hawaii, Metals Inspector Apprentice, Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. – Roldan A. Agustin of Hawaii, Shop Planner (Nondestructive Testing), Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. 2/4

The Navy Sailor was identified as Machinist’s Mate Auxiliary Fireman Gabriel Antonio Romero of Texas, assigned to USS Columbia (SSN 771). The submarine, homeported in Pearl Harbor, remains in dry-dock at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard for routine maintenance. 3/4
