Supporters of Donald Trump are urging Elon Musk to reinstate the ex-president’s Twitter account after Tesla’s billionaire boss became the social network’s biggest shareholder and got a seat on Twitter’s board.

Trump was banned from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and all other large social media platforms following the Jan. 6, 2021, rioting at the US Capitol. Trump has since launched a social media platform of his own, Truth Social, but it has been beset by technical glitches and departures of key executives.

Now pro-Trump voices are calling on Musk to burnish his pro-free speech credentials and to bring back the former president.

One day after Musk became Twitter’s largest shareholder, he tweeted in response to CEO Parag Agrawal’s welcome that he is looking forward to making “significant improvements to Twitter in coming months.”

Many conservatives are saying one of those significant improvements should be the restoration of Trump’s account.

Rep. Lauren Boebert tweeted, “Now that @ElonMusk is Twitter’s largest shareholder, it’s time to lift the political censorship. Oh… and BRING BACK TRUMP!”

Fox News correspondent Sara Carter declared, “President Donald Trump should have never been banned from Twitter in the first place – his account should be reinstated even if he chooses not to use it. @elonmusk will we see the return of a real town square without selective politically motivated censorship?”

Brexit founder Nigel Farage wrote, “Musk joining the Twitter board is the first step in the right direction. Bring back Trump!”

Forbes writer and Miss Nevada US 2014 Lisa Song Sutton tweeted, “@elonmusk Can you please bring to the board the reinstatement of Donald Trump’s @Twitter account? Free speech is free speech.”

“Not only do we need Trump back in the White House we need him back on Twitter giving us hourly updates! Also good for Twitter stock price! And free speech! @elonmusk,” tweeted actor Randy Quaid.

Congressional candidate Errol Webber of California also weighed in, tweeting, “.@ElonMusk is now the largest shareholder of Twitter. Time to get this platform back to its former glory. Step one – bring back President Trump! Step two – give everyone who has been banned a second chance. Step three – end all forms of political and other censorship.”

Former Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs for the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Monica Crowley, tweeted, “Now that @elonmusk is Twitter’s largest shareholder, he should demand the end of political censorship, company-wide reform, and the reinstatement of President Trump 🔥🔥🔥.”

Fox News contributor Leo Terrell also tweeted, “Attention #ElonMusk : Restore President Trump’s twitter account ASAP! Thank you: 75 million Trump’s Supporters.”

Meanwhile, many Twitter users on the left are in a panic over the thought of Trump returning to Twitter. One person asked, “Would you leave Twitter if Elon Musk pushes for the return of Trump to the platform?”
