A long-time Gospel radio announcer was shot dead outside her home during a dispute with a neighbor in a case Baltimore police called a ‘senseless’ and ‘tragic murder.’

Tyra Womack, 57, was pronounced dead by medical personnel Wednesday night after police responded to a call about the shooting at her home along Albion Avenue.

The article goes on to state the following:

Her sister revealed that Womack died shielding her only son from bullets allegedly being fired by her neighbor.

According to The Baltimore Sun, Womack was an announcer on WEAA-FM´s ‘Gospel Grace’ program for more than 30 years under her professional name, Tyra Phillips.

Womack’s sister told WBAL-TV that there has been a long-standing dispute between the radio host and her neighbor, in which she had to make multiple calls to police for alleged harassment.

The report says “Womack’s 25-year-old son was standing on the front porch waiting for his mother to return from her evening walk at around 9pm. As soon as she showed up, her neighbor allegedly opened fire.”

The son was not hurt, but Womack was hit by the gunfire multiple times, killing her.

WBALTV11 reporter Tre Ward posted a series of updates on Twitter, and announced Friday evening, “Baltimore Police have a warrant out for the arrest of Richard Sylvester Green, 56. He’s accused of fatally shooting @WEAA889 host Tyra Womack on Wednesday night. He’s considered armed and dangerous.”
