A New Jersey police officer has been shot by two suspects at a cemetery, police said on Tuesday.

The officer was responding to a call of two suspects near a bodega at Wilkinson Avenue and Martin Luther King Dr. in Jersey City, police said.

The article goes on to state the following:

When the officer arrived to the Bay View Cemetery, the suspects opened fire with long guns, police said.

Reportedly, two officers have been shot. NBC News reported: “According to a preliminary investigation, a police officer was shot in the head and was listed in critical condition, a senior law enforcement official said. At least one suspect was holed up in a local store, sources said.”

Reports have come in of a suspicious device seen in the store which officers are considering it to be a potential explosive device.

UPDATE: Two shooters are now reported to be DEAD. They were described as a man and a woman, dressed all in black. A Fox News reporter said officers are looking for a potential third shooter, described as a male dressed in black.

About 12 schools in the area are on lockdown. Additional information is provided in the Twitter posts and videos below.

A high school student in one of the schools on lockdown tweeted, “Hey I go to Henry Snyder Hs, a highschool that is now on lockdown in Jersey City Nj, the shooting was close to us. There are snipers on the roof and now there’s a helicopter. I’m scared.”

The White House tweeted, “The President has been briefed on the shooting in Jersey City and continues to monitor the situation.”
