A shooting that injured one security guard at the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi in Texas on Thursday has been determined to be terrorism-related, FBI officials said.

The shooter, who has not been identified, was shot dead, but a second person of interest may be at-large, the FBI said.

The article goes on to state the following:

The shooting unfolded at about 6:15 a.m. local time when the suspect sped through a gate, activating vehicle barriers which stopped the car, a defense official told ABC News.

The report states that the driver jumped out of the car after it was stopped, and began shooting. The person was then “neutralized,” later confirmed to be fatally shot, by officials at the scene.

A security guard was treated for minor injuries at the hospital and later released. The Navy Times reported that the sailor was struck by a bullet, but was wearing a protective vest, which stopped the bullet.

FBI Senior Supervisory Special Agent Leah Greeves reportedly stated, “We have determined that the incident this morning at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi is terrorism related. We may have a potential second related person of interest at large in the community.”

According to a USNI report, a US official described the suspect as an “Arab male” who stormed the gate, but the FBI has not publicly commented on the ethnicity of the suspect.

The FBI released the following statement on Twitter:

The investigation of the #CorpusNASShooting is in it’s early stages and ongoing. FBI is working with local law enforcement partners. In order to protect the integrity of the investigation, information about the suspect will NOT be released at this time.

Shooting occurred at approximately 6:15 a.m. One sailor was injured. The sailor is in good condition and is expected to be released later today. All gates on the installation remain closed while first responders process the scene. This is an active and ongoing investigation.

At the time of the shooting, cars were lined up waiting to enter the gate into the base. A video was posted to YouTube which someone took from their waiting vehicle.
