A shooting that injured one security guard at the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi in Texas on Thursday has been determined to be terrorism-related, FBI officials said.
The shooter, who has not been identified, was shot dead, but a second person of interest may be at-large, the FBI said.
The article goes on to state the following:
The shooting unfolded at about 6:15 a.m. local time when the suspect sped through a gate, activating vehicle barriers which stopped the car, a defense official told ABC News.
The report states that the driver jumped out of the car after it was stopped, and began shooting. The person was then “neutralized,” later confirmed to be fatally shot, by officials at the scene.
A security guard was treated for minor injuries at the hospital and later released. The Navy Times reported that the sailor was struck by a bullet, but was wearing a protective vest, which stopped the bullet.
FBI Senior Supervisory Special Agent Leah Greeves reportedly stated, “We have determined that the incident this morning at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi is terrorism related. We may have a potential second related person of interest at large in the community.”
According to a USNI report, a US official described the suspect as an “Arab male” who stormed the gate, but the FBI has not publicly commented on the ethnicity of the suspect.
FBI: “We have determined that the incident this morning at the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi is terrorism related…We may have a potential second related person of interest at large in the community, but we would encourage the public to remain calm.”

At the time of the shooting, cars were lined up waiting to enter the gate into the base. A video was posted to YouTube which someone took from their waiting vehicle.
As a former Navy Officer at NAS Corpus Christi, my thoughts & prayers are with the servicemembers & their families in the Corpus Christi Navy community. These acts of terrorism at our military installations will not be tolerated & the perpetrators will always be held accountable.
