BREAKING: Shooter ‘neutralized’ at U.S. military base after emergency lockdown over shooting

The Naval Air Station Corpus Chrisiti base is in lockdown, due to an active shooter reported on the base.

The base posted a notice on their Facebook page at about 6:30 a.m. CT, that first said, “Be advised at this time, all gates are closed!”

Soon after, the base posted an update which reads, “NAS Corpus Christi is now in a lockdown status. There is an active shooter in the vicinity of the North Gate. If you are in or near the North Gate get out and away to safety. Execute lockdown procedures — remain indoors and away from windows.”

Fox News reporter Lucas Tomlinson tweeted around 7:30 CT, “Shooter ‘neutralized’ at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Navy says. Base security responded to active shooter at 6:15 a.m. this morning. “One Security Force member is injured,” Navy says.”

On Twitter, the U.S. Navy acknowledged the situation, writing, “We are aware of reports of a possible active shooter at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi. More information to follow.”

Dave Brown of Politico also confirmed, “The Navy reports that a shooter has been “neutralized” after an incident this morning at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi. A security force member has been injured. NCIS is en route.”

The Naval Air Station Corpus Christi then provided an update:

Naval Security Forces at NAS Corus Christi responded to an active shooter at approximately 6:15 a.m. this morning. The shooter has been neutralized. All gates on the installation remain closed while first responders process the scene. NCIS and local law enforcement are on scene. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
