At least one person was arrested in eastern Germany Wednesday after at least two people were shot and killed near a synagogue, police said.

Several shots were fired in the city of Halle, located near the city of Leipzig, and the suspects fled the scene. Investigators said one suspect was arrested but warned to “still stay alert.”

Multiple reports also stated that a few minutes after the shooting, a grenade was thrown into a Jewish cemetery in the same city. One person who claimed to be a witness said, “I saw a girl being shot, she lives around the corner. The killer looked like some kind of policeman in full gear with helmet, protective gear, machine gun. He threw hand grenades into the cemetery.”
