POLL: Do you support Trump making a “deal” for DACA recipients to stay?

NOVEMBER 12, 2019

The Supreme Court heard arguments on Tuesday as to whether the Trump administration has the authority to end former president Barack Obama’s “DACA” program, which gave protection from deportation to at least 700,000 illegal aliens who arrived in the United States as children.

As the Supreme Court began reviewing the matter, President Trump posted a statement on Twitter, noting that some of the young migrants are “very tough, hardened criminals.” Yet, he added that if the Supreme Court does overturn the DACA program, “a deal will be made” with Democrats to let them stay in the U.S.

“Many of the people in DACA, no longer very young, are far from “angels.” Some are very tough, hardened criminals. President Obama said he had no legal right to sign order, but would anyway. If Supreme Court remedies with overturn, a deal will be made with Dems for them to stay!” Trump tweeted.

Those arguing in support of keeping the program note that most Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients came to the U.S. as very young children, grew up here, and know of no other life or country.

The program reportedly prohibits any migrant who has a criminal record from qualifying for DACA, but immigration expert Jessica Vaughan noted in a series of Twitter posts Tuesday morning that thousands of DACA participants have committed serious felonies since being admitted into the program.

“USCIS records show that 60,000 DACAs had arrest records as of June 2018. More than 2,000 had their DACA privilege revoked due to serious crimes, including murder, rape, etc.,” Vaughn said.

President Trump did not say in his Twitter post whether he would give citizenship to the DACA recipients, or simply allow them to stay.
