Former Vice President Joe Biden hired a “senior adviser” on Wednesday who said in 2017 that no one who has been “accused of sexual harassment or assault” should run for public office.

Karine Jean-Pierre, who was then the chief public affairs officer for left-wing MoveOn.org, told CNN’s Jake Tapper on State of the Union that even if nothing had been proved against a candidate, the mere accusation of sexual impropriety should be disqualifying.

The article goes on to state the following:

Tapper asked Jean-Pierre to respond to a case in which a female Democratic candidate for Congress in Kansas named Andrea Ramsey dropped out of the race because of past accusations that she had sexually harassed a male subordinate.

The Trump campaign pounced on the announcement, posting the old December 2017 video of Jean-Pierre’s statement, as she declared, “I think if you’re running for office, you can’t have been accused of sexual harassment or assault. And I think that we have to really take that next step here and make sure that doesn’t happen with anyone in office or out of office.”

“Joe Biden’s new senior advisor is a #MeToo hypocrite. @K_JeanPierre said we need to “believe women” and that someone being “accused of sexual harassment or assault” disqualified them from running for office. Now she’s working for Biden, who stands accused of sexual assault,” the Trump campaign tweeted.

Karine Jean-Pierre, 43, a Haitian-American political campaign organizer, activist, political commentator, and lecturer in international and public affairs at Columbia University, previously worked on the 2008 and 2012 campaigns for former president Barack Obama.  She is the senior advisor and national spokeswoman for MoveOn.org and a political analyst for NBC News and MSNBC.

“I am thrilled to announce that I will be joining the Biden campaign as a Senior Adviser. This is the most important general election in generations and I just could not sit this election out. I look forward to doing this work with @JoeBiden and the team! #Biden2020,” Jean-Pierre tweeted on Wednesday.
