(CNN) — The British royal family will meet Monday to discuss the future of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after the couple announced this week they would step back from their roles as senior members of the royal family, a palace source told CNN.

Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry will attend the meeting at the queen’s Sandringham estate, the source said. Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, is expected to call in to the meeting from Canada.

The article goes on to state the following:

News of the discussions follows a series of meetings and consultations over the last few days. There are a range of possibilities for the family to review, considering the couple’s thinking that they outlined in their announcement on Wednesday.

Russell Myers, Royal Editor & Chief Investigative Reporter of the Daily Mirror, tweeted, “The Queen has summoned Harry to meet with her, Prince Charles & Prince William on Monday at Sandringham to sort out the next stage of his ambitious plan with wife Meghan to quit their royal roles. Meghan will potentially ‘dial in’ to the summit but hasn’t confirmed yet.

“The next steps will be sorted out at the face to face meeting, with all four receiving written briefings beforehand from the teams tasked with solving this crisis involving the Sussexes.”

The Queen wants the change to happen “at pace,” the CNN report says, noting that the situation “requires complex and thoughtful discussion.” All parties understand that any decision will take time to implement.
More from Myers:
“Palace sources suggest Meghan may have difficulty phoning in for one of the most important meetings in modern royal history because of the time difference in Canada where she is staying after fleeing the UK leaving Harry to sort things out following their bombshell announcement.
“The meeting is the first time the four principle members of the royal family have met in person since Harry and Meghan announced their plan to quit their current roles in the family and go out on their own.
“There has been a number of meetings and consultations between senior palace aides, government mandarins from the UK and Canada as well as representatives from the Met Police and security services this week tasked by the Queen with finding an immediate workable solution.
“The Queen and Prince Charles have said there needs to be options for Harry and Meghan within days after they feared losing them forever.”
