REPORT: Trump administration proposes significant increase in US citizenship application fees

The Trump administration is considering raising the cost of U.S. citizenship applications, according to a Department of Homeland Security rule filed on Friday.
The fee for the U.S. citizenship application would increase to $1,170 – from $640, as first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

A number of other cost increases were proposed, as well as the addition of a $50 fee for asylum applications.
In a separate report the Wall Street Journal also provided the following details:
Recipients of DACA, which provides legal protection for people brought to the U.S. illegally as children, would under the proposal need to pay $275 to renew their two-year legal permits.
Some asylum seekers who apply for protection with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the DHS agency that processes citizenship and other immigration applications, would for the first time be asked to pay $50 to apply for asylum. That would make the U.S. one of the few countries in the world to attach a fee to humanitarian protections.
