Anthony Guglielmi, the chief communications office for the city’s police force, said the actions of the officer depicted in video were under investigation and “complaints of citizens are being taken very seriously.”
The article goes on to state the following:
The widely-shared incident was posted to social media and shows an officer picking up a 29-year-old man and throwing him to the pavement on the city’s South Side, hitting his head on the sidewalk curb in front of a bus station.
According to the The Chicago Tribune , the officer’s action was “in response to the man licking an officer’s face, threatening him and spitting in his eye and mouth.”

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot tweeted on Friday, “I have viewed a now widely shared cell phone video of the incident which depicts a Chicago Police Officer slamming an individual to the pavement.
While a single video does not depict the entirety of the interactions between the police and the individual, this particular video is very disturbing.
The matter is under investigation by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA). It is my expectation that the investigation will be comprehensive and expedited so that the public may gain a complete picture of what happened.

I’ve talked to authorities about this situation the last few hours. This was excessive force and they’ve said since it wasn’t a shooting he’s not on administrative leave. Excessive force should be enough to shelf him until we decide his punishment, he could’ve KILLED this man! https://t.co/H3EWBllnS4
